Ovar the Rainbow

We are in Ovar just south of Porto for a few days before heading inland to play at the Andancas festival for a week. If anything it is possibly a bit cooler here than it was in the UK but still pretty steamy. Not quite able to enjoy the moment though as stricken with a bout of bronchitis which is bad timing indeed. However it seems to be abating a little today and thank goodness I have four more days or so to get better before we have to play.

Ooh, you're playing at a festival? What do you play? I tried looking at the festival website but I don't understand Portugese ... though I guess "jazz improvisação" is fairly obvious ...

The current line up is guitar, flute, fiddle, accordian. We play dance music from all over Europe so lots of French stuff; bourees, mazurkas, andros, hanterdros etc and also waltzes polkas and Swedish polskas. We have two CDś out on the Wildwood label under the band name Chouchenn; ºOne for Youº and ºAl Denteº

We teach the traditional dances at the festival during the day and play for dancing in the evening. The Andancas festival is fantastic, so full of enthusiastic youngsters and lots of energy. If I can get rid of this damned cough it will be great fun.

Wow, that sounds fab. A lot of European dance music is very energetic ... but I imagine it's also great fun to play if you can stick the pace!

I was beginning to think I was the only person out there with dual passions for music and vegetable growing.

I hope you had a great time, anyway!
